Historical Interest & Provenance
During examination of the original framing, vintage British newspaper pages were discovered behind the artwork. Although the pages do not retain a masthead identifying the publication, they offer an intriguing connection to the print's history. The newspaper contained an article about RAF pilot William Geoffrey Meggitt, who died in an aircraft crash on January 28, 1927
The newspaper pages have been carefully preserved in acid-free paper and securely placed behind the frame backing. They will remain with the artwork and are included with the purchase.
The composition is associated with the work of James Seymour and Thomas Burford, whose equestrian mezzotints are represented in museum and specialist sporting-art collections.
A Timeless Equestrian Find
With its classic British sporting subject and aged character, this framed print would make a distinctive addition to an equestrian collection, traditional study, library, or English country-inspired interior.
